My Design Work

The Creation of My Murder Mystery Bookstore Logo

Round One Sketches

When starting on this project I went straight to the pencil and paper to sketch out some ideas for the logo that could be used for this book store. I learned that you do your best to create as many as you can so that you get the cliche ideas out of the way first. I also created a mind map on the right that gave me some ideas that I could use that branched of the word mystery. After creating these sketches I looked them over and chose a few that I could work with and went to round two of sketching.

Round Two Sketches

In round two of sketching I was focusing on trying to combine different elements of mystery with the hedgehog. I cam up with many ideas but they were not really working out for me. Finally I figured out the form of a hedgehog I wanted and I narrowed my ideas down to creating a hedgehog with a shadow in the background. I also chose two see if a hedgehog with a target could work out as well. With these ideas I started seeing how they would work on Illustrator.

Digitized Logos Round One

My original form I wanted to take on the logos was the hedgehog logo in the middle. But I wanted to see how that middle design could look with a hedgehog standing on all fours like in the right image. The one on the left was to see how it would look in a gun sight. I thought the gun sight made the logo look like it was for a gun store so I decided not to go with that one and play around more with the other two logo ideas.

Digitized Logo Round Two

In my round two of digitizing my logos I played around with the shadow a little bit more. I still kept the diversity between which form of the hedgehog I should use. Playing around with the shadows and giving the shadows a different form was intriguing for me. Of all the shadow ideas that I could think of I liked these ones. But I ultimately went with the hand idea.

Digitized Logo Round Three

Finally, I got the hand how I wanted it to be and found that I liked this idea. I chose the logo on the right to be the one that would be the outcome of my designing. I thought this way used good negative space to give it a more interesting look. In my final design I decided to cover the pinky finger by making the hedgehog bigger.

Final Logo

At last, the final product was made. Using this whole process I came up with the final product that would be perfect for a murder mystery bookstore that could use a hedgehog as the mascot in the logo. As you can see I made a few adjustments to make it look better. This is the process I will use for your product, but I promise to work even harder for you, to make a great logo for your store.
